Lauderdale County’s "Carousel of Culture," anchored by Meridian’s historic Dentzel Carousel, also boasts a merry-go-round of dining options from buffets, delis, and pizza places to steak and seafood enclaves, ethnic eateries, and barbeque joints. Barnhill’s Country Buffet on Frontage Road has a dessert bar to follow the fried offerings, and the Checkerboard Southern Kitchen dishes up assorted Deep South specialties. Hickory smoked barbeque reigns supreme at Squealer’s on North Hills Street, while steaks sizzle at The Rustler on Old Highway 80 West. Catfish and hushpuppies star at Okatibbee Creek Fish Camp in Collinsville, and similar fare reels in crowds at Boyette’s Fish Camp in Chunky. Chance and Dooley Donuts & Ice Cream addresses the needs of sweet lovers, whereas lovers of Mexican or Chinese fare head to El Norte, La Pinata Mexican Restaurant, Grace Garden Chinese Buffet, and Chaeo Praya Chinese Eatery.
